Obituary for James E. Runyon

James E. Runyon, 74, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 19, 2017 at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on September 22, 1942 in Tulsa to parents Harmon and Mildred (Cope) Runyon.

James married the love of his life, Holly Taylor on January 15, 1965. They were blessed with two children, James Taylor and Christian Noelle. Growing up the family made many wonderful memories together especially on their road trips across the country. Many were recipients of his indian burns, nicknames, and wonderful sense of humor. James had a very unique way of making people feel special and loved, even when they had little value for themselves. He spent countless hours for many years ministering to those in need at DaySpring Villa Women and Children’s Shelter. He also volunteered to minister at senior homes for those unable to get out and attend church services. He also held a deep love and made many joyous memories with his church family at First Baptist Church in Tulsa.

It was shared by his family that “James was often moved by the Holy Spirit, and when it was finished he knew it.” God’s fingerprints were all over James’ life, it was evident in the many blessings that surrounded him. All the praise for what he had and enjoyed in life was given back to God. James always knew where his strength and ability to help came from, and he was quick to give God the glory.

Those left to cherish his memory and continue his legacy are his wife, Holly of the home; Son, Dr. James Taylor Runyon and wife Cynthia of Los Lunas, NM; Daughter, Christian Noelle Ricks and husband Doug of Tulsa, OK; Grandchildren, Cherith, James, John Christian, and Marc Andrew Runyon of Los Lunas, NM, Taylor, Joshua, and Drake Ricks of Tulsa, OK; Siblings, Linda Gonzalez, Donald and wife Katie Runyon, Shirley and husband Pat Bryan, Tony and wife Penny Runyon, Gary and wife Mary Runyon, and Melody Raper; also by all of his precious nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, and one Brother, Charles Runyon.
